Apollo and Daphne     oil on canvas     40" x 30"
According to Ovid, Apollo, having been wounded by Cupid's golden arrow, falls in love with the nymph, Daphne. However she has been wounded by Cupid's lead arrow and so has no desire for anyone. Having been pursued by Apollo until exhausted, she appeals to her father for help and at the last moment he turns her into a laurel bush.
This is my first excursion in to Greek Mythology and came as a result of a commission to provide two paintings for 'The Four Candles", a new bar and restaurant in the middle of Oxford. Both paintings were completed in just three weeks.

The Dreaming Spires of Oxford       oil on canvas       40" x 30"
A new variation on a  familiar theme for me, commissioned for 'The Four Candles" bar & restaurant in George Street, Oxford, as above.

Shipton-under-Wychwood Cricket Ground                                      oil on canvas                                          24"x16"
Shipton-under-Wychwood are an illustrious Oxfordshire club, their First XI won the National Village Knockout at Lords in both 2002 & 2003 and also won the Cherwell League Division 1 Championship in 2004.
This was a commissioned painting, presented to the Chairman of the club on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday in April 2008.
The gathering clouds hint at possible rain in the afternoon . . .
The home team are in the field and, judging by his height, the facing batsman is low down the order so the visitors are struggling . . .
The chairman, with his two dogs, looks on as his side polish off the lower order.
Is that the visitors' last man on the bench, waiting nervously to go to the crease?
High quality prints of this picture are available from the artist: A3 size or A4 size, mounted and framed or mounted and unframed. Contact the artist for details.
